Location
The Dower House situated in the village of Newtonmore, on the western side of the Cairngorm National Park. You will find comfortably furnished ensuite rooms on the first floor, off road parking in our private carpark, secure out of sight parking for bikes, hearty breakfasts, and a shared guest lounge with wood burning stove to relax in or share your stories.

Newtonmore is located centrally in the highlands, so going north south east or west, it’s a good place to base your holiday. Essentials all within walking distance, from supermarkets to eating places and pubs open all year round. There is something for everyone no matter what you want to do, walking, hiking, bike riding, distilleries, museums, fishing, canoeing, photography, or just read a book, watch a movie in front of the fire.

Access
There is one room in the house that is fully accessible. .The Calder Suite is a delightful ground floor apartment flooded with natural light all day, and with first rays in the morning to the very last rays at night. Here you can choose to sit in front of the wood burning stove and read that novel you always wanted to finish or get engrossed in.

For the bed and breakfast option the main dining room has level and direct access from the Calder Suite.

Accommodation
The Calder Suite is a ground floor apartment, available for self-catering or bed and breakfast.

Calder Suite has a super king super comfy bed with dual control electric blanket, or twin (please let us know when booking which way, you want your beds), luggage racks and wardrobe for all your garments. Allergy free duvet and pillows await, with extra blankets if you need them. The walk-in shower, with heated towel rail, large bath towels and toiletries is adjacent to the bedroom.

The well-equipped kitchen has a microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer oven, electric hob along with an extensive range of cooking accessories. The kitchen table looks onto a quiet secluded courtyard with outdoor furniture and chimenea.

For self catering guests there is complimentary welcome basket to keep you going for the first breakfast at least with home made goodies from the Dower House kitchen as well as afternoon between 4-6pm with home baking.

For bed and breakfast guests, there is afternoon tea on arrival between 4-6pm, with home baking. Access to the house for breakfast is direct from the Calder Suite.

The private paved courtyard accessed from the patio doors from the kitchen, or the path from front door, has potted plants in seasonal colour and textures. There is a chimenea and outdoor table and chairs.

Facilities
Both the Dower House and the Calder Suite have a TV and DVD player. There Dower House has a good selection of movies, particularly Scottish, along with the latest box set of NCIS or OUTLANDER. There is so much to do outside as well. Great wee walks or big ones, from the doorstep. Bike trails and cafes to refuel you no matter what you choose to do. Take a drive along a quiet single track road, into the countryside, or just sit in the carpark at the top of a hill.


Whatever your interests or fitness, there is something for everyone in the Cairngorms. You can get away from it all in secluded valleys, back to nature in exquisitely beautiful scenery. There are water sports, mountain activities and lots to see in the valleys including Distillery Visits / Whisky Trails, Bird Watching, Historical Visits, Wildlife Watching, Steam Trains, Sight Seeing, Tennis, Highland Wild Life Park, Highland Folk Museum.

Food and Drink
Evening meals, afternoon teas & packed lunches are all available to be booked in advance. Menus for places to eat in the village are in the folders in the guest lounge in the house and in the Calder Suite, so you can get the picture of what is on offer where.

The breakfast is cooked to order and the menu includes daily baked muffins, pastries, eggs cooked in various ways, black pudding, vegetarian haggis, homemade breads and a choice of pancakes and toppings. Cereals, fresh fruit, juices are also offered on the side board.

The breakfasts are legendary but we can also provide lunch and dinner and there’s always something tasty to be had when you need it. We can cater for many food allergies and gluten free requirements, please ask. Evening meals, afternoon teas & packed lunches are all available to be booked in advance.

We pride in serving freshly prepared food, local sourced where possible, and cooked for you with passion.
